Abstract

Objective:  identify the knowledge and interest of Management students at the State University of Midwestern - Unicentro regarding the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during their higher education.

Methodology: This research employed a descriptive and quantitative approach, utilizing structured questionnaires distributed to Management students at Unicentro. The sample included 72 students, representing 29.88% of the total enrolled students. The questionnaire assessed students' profiles, their knowledge of the SDGs, and their suggestions for university actions to support SDG implementation. Data analysis was conducted using Google Forms and Microsoft Excel, with results presented through descriptive statistics, tables, and graphs.

Results: The findings revealed that a majority of students (62%) have limited or no knowledge of the SDGs. SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture) were the most recognized goals, whereas SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) was the least known. Students emphasized the importance of the State and Federal Governments in implementing the SDGs and suggested that the university should raise awareness, integrate SDG content into curricula, and engage in research and extension projects. Additionally, the study found significant gaps in communication and direction regarding SDGs within the institution.

Conclusions: The research concludes that there is a critical need for strategic initiatives to disseminate information about the SDGs within the university. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play a pivotal role in shaping conscious and engaged citizens for sustainability. The study highlights the necessity for universities to act as multipliers of SDG awareness and to integrate these goals into teaching, research, and extension activities. Future research should broaden the scope to include a wider range of academic participants and comparative studies across different institutions.
